Should You Reset Network Settings for an eSIM Problem?

Know when a network settings reset may help an eSIM issue, what to record first and why it should not replace provider checks.

A reset is a later step, not a diagnosis

Network settings resets can clear saved cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, VPN, or related configuration depending on the device. They do not prove that an eSIM activation is valid, that a plan includes your location, or that a provider has provisioned the profile correctly. Start with simpler checks: confirm the eSIM exists, the line is enabled, the correct data line is selected, Wi-Fi is off for a data test, and provider instructions about roaming or APN have been read.

Google’s Pixel troubleshooting guidance includes resetting all network settings among its other steps, after checks involving mobile-data settings, network type, signal, SIM activation, and other connectivity issues. Treat that sequence as sensible troubleshooting discipline: do not make a reset your first response to an error that says a QR code is invalid or an eSIM cannot be added.

Record the state you may lose

Before a reset, write down the eSIM line label, exact error, current signal/data state, selected data SIM, APN only if your provider supplied one, and any manual network choice. Make sure you know Wi-Fi passwords and whether a work or travel setup relies on a VPN. Read the warning on the device and follow the manufacturer’s own instruction for your model and software version.

Do not remove the eSIM profile as part of a generic cleanup unless the provider confirms that reinstallation is available. Samsung notes that removing a mobile plan from a Galaxy device does not itself end the network-provider contract, which is a useful reminder that device actions and account status are different things. A removed profile can still leave you needing provider help to get back online.

Test once after restarting

After the reset and restart, connect to Wi-Fi if needed to finish setup, then turn Wi-Fi off and try one basic page. Note the result and stop there. If the issue persists, send support the before-and-after result instead of performing repeated resets.

For a profile that will not install, use eSIM Activation Failed: What to Check Before You Retry. If the profile works but data does not, see eSIM Installed but No Mobile Data. Before you escalate, complete The eSIM Support Diagnostic Checklist.
